5 Primary Differences Between GM And Paleo Diet That You Should Know
If there’s one area most badly impacted by the repercussions of
the modern age, it’s ought to be human health. People’s changing lifestyle
habits, their desk-bound jobs, and unhealthy food choices, all play a huge role
in fueling the ever-growing cases of obesity, hypertension, diabetes,
cardiovascular diseases, and the lethal cancer! Over the past couple of years,
with people’s growing awareness of healthy living, and media’s impact on the
changing perception of beauty, the trend of speedy weight loss regimens is fast
catching up. People use difference methods including diet plans, natural weight loss remedies, yoga, exercise, weight loss tablets etc. If you are a part of the bandwagon looking to try fad diets for a
fab body, here are the top five differences between the popular GM and Paleo
diet that you should know:
1.
The
History – The
origin of the GM diet dates back to the 1980’s, introduced by the American
automotive multinational, General Motors for its employees. Though the validity
of its origin is disputed, and some even call it an urban legend, the results of the diet are quite
impressive.
On the other hand, the Paleo diet is
inspired from the diet of the people of the Paleolithic era or the Stone Age
that ended about 10,000 years ago with the popularization of agricultural and
dairy farming.
2.
The
Duration –The
GM diet is a 7-day long diet, comprising of certain foods allocated for each
day. For maximum results, the diet needs
to be followed in its given order.
Paleo diet isn't restricted to specific
number of days. It encourages the adoption of this streamlined diet for a long
period. Though there are certain time-specific versions of the Paleo diet as
well, in general, it is followed across a long stretch of time.
3.
The
Promise – The
GM diet is a great option for those looking for quick weight-loss. The diet
promises to help you lose about 10 pounds of body weight at the end of the
7-day period. It also promises to improve your digestive health, with the
increased consumption of fiber-rich foods and fluids. In addition, the diet
promises to give your skin a glow, by ridding your body of toxins.
The high protein and fiber-rich Paleo diet
doesn’t just promise to help you drop those pounds. It also promises to help
you reduce the risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and other
health problems caused due to inflammation. You can lose up to 50 pounds of body fat
by following this diet for 6 months.
4.
The
Foods – As
mentioned earlier, the GM diet is spread across 7 days and each day focuses on
certain food types. Here is a day-wise break-up of the diet:
Paleo Diet Plan vs GM |
Day 1 – Unlimited fruits (except bananas) and water
Day 2 – Unlimited veggies (raw, baked or boiled)
and water. You can kickstart your day with half a boiled potato
Day 3 – A mix of unlimited fruits and vegetables
and lots of water
Day 4 – Up to 8 bananas and 4 glasses of milk. You
can have vegetable soup and other fruits or vegetables if you remain hungry.
Drink lots of water
Day 5 – About 283 grams of beef/lean meat/cottage
cheese, soy, lentils and 6 tomatoes with water
Day 6 – Beef/lean meat/cottage cheese, soy, lentils
with vegetable soup and water
Day 7 – Brown rice with vegetables, fruit juice,
and water
The Paleo diet comprises of a mix of
protein-packed lean meats, eggs, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and
heart-healthy oils rich in unsaturated fats like olive oil and coconut oil.
Processed foods, potatoes, salt, refined sugar, vegetable oils, dairy products,
grains, and legumes cannot be eaten on this diet. The idea is to eat like a
caveman.
5.
The
Final Verdict – While
the GM diet is adaptable to suit both, vegetarians and non-vegetarians, the
Paleo diet is more satisfying both nutritionally as well as in terms of taste,
to meat-eaters.
Though the GM diet is known to be an easy
means to losing weight, sustaining the weight loss isn’t easy if you resume
your regular diet. On the contrary, as Paleo diet brings about a long-term
change in your lifestyle and dietary choices, its benefits are far better and
steadier.
The drawback of the Paleo diet, however, is that it could lead to nutritional deficiencies of calcium and carbohydrates that you must make up for with additional intake of vegetables, fruits, and nuts.

weight-loss promoting diets, which one do you think you’d like to try?
